Baggage

Packing to go to Adelaide tomorrow morning. I will be attending my aunt’s funeral. She’d been ill for some time and passed away last Saturday.

Realising how most of my travel in the past few years has been for work, and it’s so much easier to pack when you have to think about work.

I’ll only be in Adelaide for one night so I don’t need much. The picture shows my handbag. Too much tech – my Kindle and iPad mini. (I’ll have my iPhone, too, but I was using it to take the photo.) When I fly I always try to have a charge cord easily available in case there is a USB charger accessible on the plane. (I have chronic Drain Dread.)

Also in the picture, three pens and a pencil. Don’t ask me why I need so many pens for such a short trip. A passport sized Midori Traveler’s Notebook which also doubles as my wallet. Lip balm and moisturiser. Sunglasses. The paper underneath the iPad is a printout of my plane ticket. I don’t know why I bother, I’ve never ever been asked for it, but I always follow instructions and bring a printout of my ticket/itinerary when I fly.

I normally never bring the bag in the picture when I travel for work, because it’s quite small and when I travel for work, I have longer trips and have to focus on having enough space. Also the leather is quite heavy.

In my bag

I’ll have a second small canvas bag with a change of clothes in it. Adelaide will be cold – maximum temperatures of 15º/59ºF forecast over the next couple of days – and I’m worried about being too cold so I have a spare jumper and spare socks.

I don’t know Adelaide at all. I think the last time I was there was in the early 1990s.

  1. Sorry to hear about your aunt.

Curiously, I also print multiple copies of both my flights and accommodation. I keep a full set in my main pack and one set on me. I used to print 3 sets and would have the third in my daypack but I’ve ceased doing that version. For our NZ trip last year, I even made a separate doc listing all accommodation details for each part of the stay and details of flights and hire cars.

    1. I’m glad I’m not the only one who does the print thing. Mind you, I only print one set…

  2. Sorry about the loss of your Aunt.

Adelaide is forever linked to the Haigh’s Chocolates seconds shop for me.

  3. Print once, and then scan to DropBox (not for Oz travel…I am talking exciting OS travel)/
    Take care…x

    1. Actually, I usually have a copy in evernote and on my ereader as well 🙂 Admittedly, that’s getting a little OCD.

  4. Sorry to hear about the passing of your Aunt.

I still print out my plane ticket, hotel bookings etc. as well. But now only once and I make sure I have the email marked so it is easily accessible from my phone.

I too associate Adelaide with Haighs. And librarians drinking as my one and only visit was for NLS2.
